Engineers and programmers are the often-anonymous architects of society, and what you do now could make a huge difference to the lives of millions, even billions, of people in decades to come. -Charlie Stross Shaping the Future

okay... so... this is an actual update to my blog... yes... it is.

thursday, 9.20.02, approx. 1:00a.m. (yes, AM): "dorm move-in day"
so it is about 1 in the morning and my roommate and are settling into our dorms. marie and the now skin-headed sailimon are helping us move in. a quiet, very empty dorm floor is interrupted by our senseless and confusing bursts of "woooord" and "kna mean" and "fa-sho 'nuff" and "nigger nagger". but it's not like last year... no more feeling like we were invading someone elses territory, no more feeling like we were maid's to someone more important than us, no more feeling confined. this was our very own, nate-free room! yes!!!! (imagine lisa saying that) this was a our very own dorm-room. we could talk, watch TV, play music, enter and exit as we please. now we can actually walk to our desks without having to go through obstacles of nate's clothing and computer chair. now i have more than one single, tiny-ass closet. i have an entire section of closets and drawers and a mirror and a towel rack. trash isn't just piled near the wall, it actually goes and falls into a trash bin with an actual plastic liner. wow. our very own dorm. i never could have imagined. this is what everyone was talking about, what everyone wanted to have. now we have it.

friday, 9.21.02, approx. 10:00a.m.: "post-move-in day, newcomers appear"
it's too early to be awake. tons of cars and traffic outside the dorm halls and de neve drive. newcomers to the dorm have entered. no one exceptional, no one that stands out. boo! boring. i was rudely reminded why i despised los angeles: the #$@&* traffic.

sunday, 9.23.02, approx. 8:30p.m.: "back-to the dorms, everyone settled"
the final move-in day has ended and i am back to my wonderful school of UCLA (sarcasm at its best). new people (mostly freshman) are scattered about walking around, forming their cliques and their forever-'friends' that they' won't be talking toby the end of the quarter (if their lucky). poor freshman, they don't know what they have entered. it's not reality that's for sure. i don't step out of the psuedo-wonderland until Roy comes back from work at midnight. his gross and very blunt humor brings me a very refreshing sense of superiority and shows me a glimpse of reality that these poor freshman can never witness or imagine. they're stuck in their perfect world of frats and rushes and drinking and orgies. aren't they gonna be surprised for a rude awakening.

monday, 9.24.02, approx. 10:00a.m.: "too-many people, book buying day"
commotion all around. dorm life has finally begun with 95% of the people moved. groups and cliques forming all around. ain't it grand to see fake relationships forming? anyways... i was agained reminded why i hate los angeles. there's no way to get around. walking is the only way and you have to walk great distances through rugged terrain (literally, my fellow bruins will back me up on that one) to get to your 50 minute class that might be canceled only to send you the opposite direction back to the dorms. i really need to fix my bike so those strenuous treks through mountanous terrain and construction sites doesn't tire me out so that i can finally have strength to study and do homework and maybe even socialize.

one thing that'll for sure get you to realize that summer is over and that school is just around the corner is buying books. usually a horrific task that sucks money out of your wallet like nothing was turned into a quick and enjoyable experience with roy, marie and sailimon joining the journey and introducing an even cheaper place to buy books (where i was only able to find one of my 4 books) where i saved about $10. yay. books weren't bad this quarter. my math books weren't books at all, they were just paper-back workbooks and course readers. i took a glance into them and eek! i saw a double sigma sign... you know... the summation symbol... two of them directly next to each other... "INFINITE SERIES"... doesn't that sound dreadful? i thought vector calculus was hard... this one is going to be a doo-see (s.p.)

today, 10:00p.m.: "2-days 'til horror"
yes, i don't start 'til friday. "but i thought UCLA starts on thursday", you say. nope! i don't have thursday classes remember! so... i shall spend 5 hours of my life tomorrow and sacred heart kids club. a very nice sanctuary to escape from the harshes (my very own word, i could not find a nother word to convey my feelings) of reality. many great people go there and have gone there. all of them friends of mine, some of them very close friends of mine.
first of all, SAMMY who really was the mastermind that got me to start going to kids club in the first place. write now he's being very successful and OCC, getting As while in the honors program. ambitions include going to UCLA and majoring in engineering and/or mathematics. for sure he is going to get there. right now taking the very worst math (currently, in my opinion) "vector calculus".
next, OMAR. who did go to kids club for service then went for a little bit. genuinely enjoyed the kids and going. his religious beliefs conflicted yet he still went. the only reason he's not going now is because he doesn't feel like his personality outside of sacred heart is right for such a place where your influences tremendously shape the personalities of the kids. and one of the kids saw him smoking outside of a store.
next, STEVE. what can i say about steve. he is dope. he knows everything. a great personality, very honest, yet very blunt. he has a great girlfriend. both very lucky to have each other. good luck to them. thanks, steve, for everything.
JACKSON. jackson, another very tight individual. very stylish. works wonders with the ladies. a pimp, playa, hustla, balla, shot-calla... he's got it all. has tons of friends... wouldn't expect anyless with that type of personality. no longer a regular at sacred heart because of school... maybe now he shall be.
JANE. a very gorgeous and talented young lady that has everything going for her. kind hearted, loving, spirited, spritual, great with the kids. what more could you ask from a wife? can you believe she's single? she's picky too. drives an integra LS named jeremiah, stick shift w/ a short shifter (it was like that when she bought it, she says). she's pro at driving stick shift... for instance... while driving Eliza, she was able to beat down a vehicle that is technically faster and more able than Eliza (and yes, that car was racing us). good luck to her.
LISA!!!!!. who can forget about lisa. she has broken many of my friends' hearts without her even knowing. again another pretty, talented, kind hearted, loving, spirited, spiritual, bright individual. the adjectives go on yet my vocabularly is very limited. i can not and will not do justice to describing lisa in words. pictures and video will not do. a personal encounter is a must to experience the grandeur of this individual. she currently goes to UC Berkeley... doing what? i don't know. breaking the guys' hearts, that's for sure.
CATHERINE. another alumni from kids club. she is a fellow UCLA-er. dorming across the way at Rieber somewhere. again, having to fight the guys off with a stick and maybe even bigger things. and again, adjectives cannot describe her. catherine is dope. good luck to her as well.
