Engineers and programmers are the often-anonymous architects of society, and what you do now could make a huge difference to the lives of millions, even billions, of people in decades to come. -Charlie Stross Shaping the Future

i started work yesterday. yay!
(mind you this is a long post. good stories though. take your time reading it. i doubt i'll have anything more exciting to post in the next week.)

i work at a company called vengroff, williams, and associates. it's an outsourcing company where we handle accounts receivable.

my manager john is really cool and laid back. he's this young asian guy who wore shorts (it's friday so it's really casual). the dress code is business casual so we can where jeans everyday except when customers come in then we have to dress up a little. there were 5 of us that started today but in the end i was the only one that was hired. it seems that the company was in a bind for hiring so many people. i got a direct interview with the company and was hired straight from them. the other 4 ladies came from a temp. agency called apple one.

all of us new people were training in the training room and when i had to go pick up print outs in the other room where the managers were john asked me who was the most qualified of the group. i automatically thought "me" but i'm not self-centered enough to say that. there was this white lady in her mid forties that understood what was going on and sorta knew how to work with the program but she was really bitchy and moody. she would always butt into other people's conversations and bring up points of hers to become the center of attention. she was just very rude and i wanted to sock her in the face by lunch time. so when john asked me that question i was in a bind. i knew this girl was the most qualified but the other girls were a lot nicer and more friendly and they would understand the software in time. so i let john know my thinking by hesitating a little but in the end i told him it was the white girl (obviously i didn't say "white girl" but i said her name). he agreed but made the comment that "she has an attitude problem" and i was like "ding ding ding! exactly... so i think one of the other girls would be a better choice".

so in my mind i thought "man... there gonna let some of us new people go". i felt confident that they'd take me because john and the others (except the white girl) were impressed that i caught on to the software so quickly. i modestly told them that i just had experience with computer systems and knew the ins and outs(i didn't let them know that i could make better software while i'm on the toilet, though. lol. i'm being honest!). when the white girl tried the software she messed up many times and there was a point where she didn't believe me in what button to press. in the end, it was the correct button. she was moded. i wanted to say that soo badly.

i'm working again today from 10a.m. to 3p.m. it was funny because the second time i was in the print room the managers were pondering how they were going to let the others know that the company is not going to take them. since the 4 ladies came from a temp agency the company decided to let their agency let them know they weren't going to have a job on monday. how messed up is that? all day they were telling us new people that they were going to need us to come in on saturday because they were so backed up. i walked with john from the print room to the training room where the ladies were at and i asked him "so do you need me to come in tomorrow" he replied "yeah, that'd be great if you could. we're really backed up and we need to catch up." so i was like "alright. will do." as soon as we walked into the training room john told the ladies "okay, i have some news for you..." and i thought he was going to tell them the bad news but he said this, "we don't need you to come in tomorrow" and i thought he was going to finish off by saying "and we don't need you to come in next week or anytime at all because we're firing your asses" or something of that nature that's a little more subtle. but he finished off with nothing! lol. he just told them they didn't have to come in tomorrow and right before he told me that they need me there. lol. yeah, that's giving me a big head. but hey, be proud of me that i beat out 4 women who have degrees and more job experience. i was thinking "racial descrimination..." but one of the other girls was vietnamese and john is obviously vietnamese so it's not possible. could be gender descrimination? naw, one of the managers is a female and she didn't have a problem with the outcome.

well, it seems like i have another "office space" type of job with cover letters and batch reports. news travels through the whole office through personalized e-mail and i heard people today saying "didn't you get the memo?". lol.

harold and kumar go to white castle. what a funny movie. i love the humor in it. yesterday everyone went to watch m. knight shamalamadingdong's "the village" when they should have watched "harold and kumar go to white castle". the humor was so random and off the wall that you had to laugh. it was just an enjoyable movie experience that i haven't felt since eurotrip. can't wait for "harold and kumar go to amsterdam".

happy hour at tgif's is nice and affordable. half price on appetizers when you order at least one alcoholic beverage (note: you must tell the waiter you want the happy hour appetizers or else you'll get the regular ones and they won't be cheap). don't get the oreo twist dessert unless you love a lot of rich chocolate. it's like diddy riese's where you get so sick of the rich and sweet cookie and just eat the ice cream center. there's fudge and caramel too but the chocolate just over powers it. i recommend the warm apple crisp.

i wanna make you smile
whenever you're sad
carry you around
when your arthritis is bad
oh, all i wanna do
is grow old with you

i'll get you medicine
when your tummy aches
build you a fire if the furance breaks
oh, it could be so nice
growin' old with you

i'll miss you
kiss you
give you my coat when you are cold
need you
feed you
even let you hold the remote control

so let me clear the dishes
in our kitchen sink
put you to bed
when you've had too much to drink
i could be the man
who grows old with you
i wanna grow old with you

i wrote that just now... isn't it nice...
