snowboarding
night boarding on saturday was awesome. the skies were clear, the winds were nonexistent, the temperature was moderate (it was as cold as it is during the day except without the blinding sun and there was no fog), there was no wait to get on the lifts, and there weren't hoardes of people blocking your path (although we were those people sometimes). there were probably about 50 people total on the mountain. one bad thing: the slopes were the iciest i've ever seen it. as omar put it, "it was like ice skating but with a board".
omar did awesome for his first time. he is now known as the triple-threat. he does skateboarding and surfing and now he is doing snowboarding. he was able to do tiny half-carves. he knows how to keep his lead foot forward! a trick that many people i know who have gone for several years have not yet mastered. he fell several times like a beginner first should but the many things he accomplished were awesome. we took him on blue ridge express, the lift that takes you to the very top of the mountain, and he boarding extremely well down it but gave up near the bottom. he decided to walk the rest of the way until we got back to the beginner trail because the slope was very steep. but when he took of his board, that thing went sailing down the mountain. luckily no one was in it's path because that thing friggin' flew like crazy!! once he put that board back on on the beginner slope, he did many of the crazy things i mentioned above.
i was only able to make 4 runs total for the day (2 on the beginner and 2 on the intermediate) and i wasn't able to comletely warm up to attempt jumps or boxes. maybe next time. i wanted to go on one last run but i was late by like 5 minutes. they already closed down the lifts. damn. it's okay. i had one fall the whole night. i dunno what happened, i guess i lost control and i landed right on my knees. that ice was so damned hard. oh well, i got back up and forgot about it. my knees hurt like crazy after driving home but not one other part of my body was in pain. i just needed to stretch my knees some more and they were okay. driving left them in an unstretched position for over an hour and a half (not good). the next day i was feeling perfectly fine.

somebody please give this movie the academy award for best picture already. that was such an awesome movie. tom cruise is like a super hero. i'm so jealous of that guy. he can say that he has done everything already: flew a fighter jet, drove race cars, stopped bad guys in the future as a supercop, lived his ultimate dreams in his mind, gambled with the ultimate winning system, and nicole kidman.
i need to watch that movie again. there's so much action and so many things going on you don't realize that the movie is over 2 hours long. it is good from beginning to end. all i can say is "wow". that is a definite keeper. more of a keeper than the 3 matrix movies and the 3 lord of the rings movies (as of right now) put together.
