Engineers and programmers are the often-anonymous architects of society, and what you do now could make a huge difference to the lives of millions, even billions, of people in decades to come.

stupid cheap ass dell laptops made of plastic. my monitor keeps going off and on. it's time for a new laptop. now i don't know if i want to get a top of the line laptop that'll last me a while like this current laptop has. this laptop was about $3k and over 3 years that's about $1k per year. so i can get a standard laptop today that'll be outdated in a year and then buy another one next year (if the finances permit me) and so on... or i can get an expensive super laptop with everything i want that'll be outdated in 3 years. the thing is, do i really need everything that super laptop will give me?
the processing power of my 3 year old laptop is no longer enough to do all my compiling and programming. it takes for ever to run my engineering programs. streaming video is so choppy now due to these complicated compression algorithms.
so i guess i need the power to do this and that. i don't do much gaming anymore so i don't need to good of a graphics card (although it would be nice).
it would also be nice to have a dual layer DVD burner that these new dells have... hmmm... what to do, what to do?
